Prayer for Canada Convention 2018
Lord, we come to you in praise for royal power belongs to You and You rule over the nations. All the kings of the earth belong to you and you sit as King forever. The nation of Canada does not escape your attention. We are under your authority. Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, You are God. (Psalm 22:28; Psalm 90:1-2)
God we proclaim the words that we sing in our national anthem. Keep our land glorious and free. We want our land to be glorious, celebrated, and distinguished as a nation who looks to You. We want our freedom as a nation to be the result of us walking in Your ways.
With that proclamation God, we come to You in repentance, we humble ourselves and pray, and Lord today, we turn from our wicked ways. Lord You are king forever and ever and the godless nations will vanish from the land. (Psalm 10:16) Restore godliness to our nation. Free us from sinful strongholds. God we repent of the pride that has kept us from treating other people groups that inhabit our nation with dignity and respect. We repent of indifference, where we have turned a blind eye to unrighteousness, allowing it to continue unchecked. We repent of passivity that has caused us to lose traction in responding to injustices against our citizens, especially those who are vulnerable. We repent of personal sins that have hindered our relationship with You and with others. Lord would You hear us from heaven today, forgive our sins and heal our land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
God we ask that us as pastors and leaders would not be fearful in the face of opposition, such as we are experiencing even now, as requirements and mandates handed down from our government are changing for the church today. We pray we would not lose our voices and that we would speak truth, love and grace as we stand for righteousness. Lord help us to represent you in our dealings with the authorities in our nation.
Lord we pray for our prime minister Justin Trudeau. Surround him with voices of godly wisdom. Convict him in areas of unrighteousness. God you say in Proverbs that the king’s heart is in Your hand and like rivers of water, You turn it wherever You wish. Turn His heart to You Lord that He would lead with integrity, godly discernment, and character. We pray that Justin Trudeau, our cabinet, our senate, our party leaders, and our provincial and municipal governments in Canada would embrace sound principles.
We pray that the leaders of our provinces would not walk in conflict but would be united and walk in accountability. By Carolyn Crowell May 2018 2
We pray for our first nations people, as those who first cultivated this land. We pray for healing where injustice has taken place. We pray for destructive strongholds to be broken in the mighty name of Jesus. We pray these nations within Canada would come to know You as their creator, sustainer, and redeemer. We pray that reconciliation would go beyond our government to where our first nations people reconcile themselves to You. That you would intersect their lives in a powerful way and as a result, their stories of You would be heard as a powerful testimony by all of Canada.
We pray for a spiritual renewal to take place within all Canadians. We pray that those who know You, each one of us here, would acknowledge and respond to the mission field at our doorstep, by ministering to the nations of the world and to the unreached people groups that now reside within Canada. Let there be a renewed passion in us to reach those who have not yet heard the good news about Jesus.
We pray you would be exalted in our colleges and universities. God we pray that those students who walk in relationship with You would be filled with all boldness to proclaim the truth of Your name where so many thoughts contrary to Scripture prevail.
Lord would you replace our evil years with good. Let us, your servants, see you work again in the nation of Canada; let our children see your glory. And may You, as the Lord our God show us Your approval and make our efforts successful. (Psalm 90:15-17)
God you’ve said in Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” That is the heart of our prayer today. May our nation once again be blessed. May we once again be called a nation whose God is the Lord.
